Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 14, 2026

Export My Chats (exportmychats.chat) is a free, unofficial viewer for Character.AI data exports. This policy explains what we collect. In short: your files and chats never leave your device.

Your files stay in your browser

When you open a .zip or .json export, it is read by JavaScript running in your own browser. Your files, chat messages, character names and file names are never uploaded to us or to anyone else. Downloads you create (.txt or .md) are generated on your device.

Anonymous usage counts

To know whether the tool works, we count three kinds of events: a file opened successfully, a file failed to open, and a download was clicked. Each event only adds 1 to a total for that day. We do not store chat content, file names, IP addresses, device identifiers or anything that could identify you. Opening the built-in sample is not counted.

No cookies, no accounts

We do not use cookies, do not ask you to sign up, and do not run advertising or third-party trackers. If we ever add advertising or other services that collect data, we will update this page first.

Hosting

The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Like any web host, Cloudflare may process standard technical data (such as IP addresses) to deliver and secure the site, under Cloudflare's privacy policy. We do not receive or store those logs.

Children

The site is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone.

Changes

We may update this policy. The date at the top shows the latest version.
